The picture must be from 1942 and shows Company D, 36th Infantry Battalion of the Texas Defense Guard. Leading is CAPT H. A. Moore (Superintendent of Schools) the gent directly behind him is my Dad, H. N. (Jack) Stevens who, at the time was First Sergeant of the Company. I joined the Company in 1942 and stayed about a year until I went on active duty. Have lots of stories about the Guard Company. Our "armory" was upstairs in the downtown Schreiner Wool and Mohair House.Jack M Stevenscaptjack47https://www.blogger.com/profile/11258128860156030377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9185899036941198756.post-63638814238248173792011-12-15T15:47:31.845-06:002011-12-15T15:47:31.845-06:00Joe, The picture is Company D, 36th Infantry Batta...Joe, The picture is Company D, 36th Infantry Battalion of the Texas Defense Guard. The Company Commander is Captain H. A. Moore (Superintendent of Schools). Directly behind him is my Dad, H. N. (Jack) Stevens who was the First Sergeant. I'd guess the time was 1942. Our meeting place was upstairs in the old downtown Schreiner Wool and Mohair House. Brings back lots of personal memories as I joined the T. D. G. in June 1942 and served until discharged (as First Sergeant) in June 1943 to go on active duty.Jack M Stevensnoreply@blogger.com
