A new view of the Charles Schreiner Company

Happy Mother's Day!

I hadn't seen this photo of the Charles Schreiner Company before.  There are several intersting things about it --

  • the sign that says Basement Cash and Carry Grocery
  • the view of the old Wool Warehouse
  • the fact that there are no windows on the lower floor facing Earl Garrett Street (where, until recently, the women's shoe department was).
Thanks to Lanza Teague for sharing this image with all of us.  I think this image might be by Starr Bryden.
Schreiner Store, Kerrville, early 1930s, possibly taken by Starr Bryden.

  1. This is a very interesting photo.

It clearly shows the basement staircase, the Schreiner Bank Clock, a beautiful old street light, and what might be Christmas lights strung across the street.

    I like it.

  2. Instead of street lights, Kerrville had street bumps. The bump, in the middle of the road at an intersection, had the word "STOP" printed on it and it was as legal as "STOP" signs are today.

If you failed to stop, you were given a citation.
