Katherine Turley brought by an album of photographs collected by a member of her husband's family. I really liked this shot of the 3rd Kerr County Courthouse, because it shows the courthouse from the front. I have several photos in my collection of this old courthouse, but this is the first one I've received of the front of the building. This courthouse burned down in the 1920s and was replaced by the current

Kerr County Courthouse, Kerrville, probably around 1915 |
What a beautiful old courthouse.
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting because I have an old photo of the Kerrville Courthouse that is similar to this one, but not exactly the same.
ReplyDeleteMy photo only shows a very small part of the courthouse, but it shows enough to determine that the roofs of the two courthouses are slightly different.
Does anyone know when this courthouse was built?
My photo was taken before 1903, and could have been as early as 1870.
Joe,
ReplyDeleteIn your blog, could you post a sample of each Kerr County Courthouse?
If displayed side by side, or one after the other (in a column) we could see
how the courthouses changed over the years.
Thanks.
I don't have a photo of the very first courthouse, which was a log structure. But I do have a photo of the second and third, which I've posted here: http://joeherringjr.blogspot.com/2011/10/three-different-views-of-old-kerr.html
DeleteThe 4th is the current courthouse, the front of which looks the same as it did when built.
Hope this helps.
