Mystery Photo Contest: Where was this photo taken?

For fun I thought we'd have another Mystery Photo Contest: as before, please tell me where this photo was taken, and what is there now.  The photo was taken in Kerrville on a major street, probably in the 1920s.

Mystery Photo: Kerrville, probably around 1925.

  1. Looks to me like Dr. Palmer's office located close to where Herring Printing is now. As I remember it, you entered through a door on the porch.

  2. The building on the far right looks like the Gregory House on Water Street.

  3. This is the south side of 600 block of Water Street. The wall barely visible on the left is the La Veda Shop and I believe the house is Mrs. Domingues' home. Can't recall what the building to the right was, but it became the Rialto. Presently the home of Herring Printing. Did I get this one right?

  4. OK... actually I think "Grape Juice" is closer to being there now than Herring Printing... Your shop is on the other side of the building on the right...

  5. Looks like Dr. Palmer's office about where Herring Printing or parking lot is today. Entry to the office was through a door on the porch.

  6. Joe, are you certain that the photo was taken around 1925?

Could it have been taken earlier?

  7. I'm guessing that Pampell's is on the right side of the photo, and the Rector's building is on the left side of the photo (out of sight - not in the frame).

  8. Is this the small building marked "office" in the 600 block of Water Street, about where Grape Juice is now, or your parking lot? The two story building to the right would be Parsons' hall.

  9. Already posted my guess but have still been trying to pin it down better. From info in your other blog posts, I'm thinking it's a good chance this was Dr. Parsons' residence and/or office. Further study does seem to pin it down the location of your print shop, rather than one or two doors down, based on comparing the location of the street lights and utility poles in several old photos. In fact, to stretch a point, it almost seems from Google Street view that though the two poles in front of your parking lot have obviously been replaced, they may not have moved more than a few inches in the last century.

  10. Joe, I think that was right where your printing shop is today.

  11. Just a guess, but from its proximity across from Peterson Garage, later Peterson hospital (the board building to the right of the subject photo is also in the 2nd photo)---so Shot in the Dark---The Arcadia Theatre is there now!?
