"Modern" Architecture in Kerrville

A front-page story in the Kerrville Daily Times about my friend Peter Lewis and his work as an architect in Kerrville caused me to remember some of the buildings from my youth that were special.   We had some buildings here which we thought were pretty darned cool.

Lower Colorado River Authority building, Kerrville, 1950s
Note the round section by the standing figure.
This building was remodeled and now serves as
Kerrville City Hall, 800 Junction Hwy

Hill Country Federal Savings Building, Kerrville 1950s.
This design seemed very clean and modern at the time.
Now Broadway National Bank, 500 Main Street

First National Bank Motor Bank, Kerrville
Structure demolished to make way for
One Schreiner Center, 800 Block Water

Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library, Kerrville, 1967
The City of Kerrville has made several detrimental changes to
this building, which once was very neat.

Charles Schreiner Bank, Kerrville, 1960s
Most people scoff at these slipcover facades, and yes I'd prefer
the old bank building underneath.
But doesn't it look "space age?"
