Then and Now: the Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital

Recently I gave a presentation at the Schreiner Mansion, where I paired historic photographs with snaps I'd taken that day with my phone.  I did this because I realized most people haven't studied area photographs as I have, and so it's sometimes confusing to know where an historic photo was taken.  So I took a copy of each historic photograph with me, and tried to find the exact spot where the old photograph was taken -- and then I took a photo with my cellphone.   Over the next few Wednesdays, I'll publish the results here.  Please feel free to share these with your friends.

Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital, Kerrville, around 1949.
This hospital was located at the corner of Water and Sidney Baker Streets.
It was quite a big deal for our community when it opened.
The site today, now called "Peterson Plaza."

  1. Seems to me downtown is disappearing, old buildings are being demolished to make way for what? Downtown should have been revitalized and instead tearing down buildings is what keeps them busy. Downtown could have been a huge success if they had kept the Bluebonnet Hotel , renovated it and even build anchor stores, big or large. Kerrville does not have many national business and now and it's been a while, seems like citizens will travel to San Antonio. Kerrville could be a busy town instead the money that should be going to Kerrvlle is now going to Austin - San Antonio, New Braunsfels, etc. , even though the town stretches out, a downtown is just as important.
